North-East trampolinist selected in Olympic squad

SELECTED: Kat Driscoll SELECTED: Kat Driscoll

KAT Driscoll will represent Great Britain in the Olympic trampolining competition following her selection this afternoon.

Driscoll, who is based at West Rainton, near Houghton-le-Spring, will be Britain's only trampolinist at this summer's Games.

She topped the world rankings for much of last season and helped the British squad secure a team gold at last month's European Championships.

The 26-year-old is a member of the Apollo Trampolining Club and trains at Washington Leisure Centre, and will travel to London with a strong chance of claiming a medal.

"It was a long qualifying process for trampolining, but it's great to get it over with and be able to say I'm going to be going to the Olympics," said Driscoll, who was born in Kent, but who moved to the North-East at the age of 18.

"I've always dreamed of competing in an Olympic Games, and now I'm going to get my chance.

"The training has been going really well and hopefully I'll produce some clean jumps down in London and see how I go.

"It's a massive honour to get the place and incredibly exciting to think it's all so close now."
