Watford trail Preston North End 1-0 at half time of their Capital One Cup second round tie at Deepdale.
Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores made 11 changes to the Golden Boys side which started Sunday’s draw at Southampton. It showed.
Watford passed poorly, lacked movement and offered no goal threat during the first 45 minutes. The closest they came was a Miguel Layun shot from 20 yards which cleared the crossbar.
Preston made five changes to their side for the game but looked sharp and solid defensively.
The only goal of the half arrived in the eighth minute of the contest. There was slight fortune as Josh Brownhill’s scuffed volley fell perfectly for Marnick Vermijl but he slotted past Giedrius Arlauskis from ten yards out.
Preston North End: Pickford, Woods, Huntington, Wright, Clarke, Vermijl, Kilkenny, Brownhill, Browne, Reid, Garner
Preston North End substitutes: Kirkland, Davies, Welsh, Gallagher, Johnson, Humphrey, Beckford
Watford: Arlauskis: Paredes: Angella, Britos, Ake: Watson, Smith; Layun, Abdi, Forestieri; Vydra.
Watford substitutes: Gilmartin, Belkalem, Pudil, Hoban, Berghuis, Dyer.
