Watford wing-back Miguel Layun helped Mexico win the Gold Cup for a record seventh time as El Tri defeated Jamaica 3-1 in this morning’s final.
Layun, who joined the Golden Boys in January, played the full match as Mexico eased to victory over a Reggae Boyz side which included former Hornets Adrian Mariappa and Jobi McAnuff. Joel Grant was also on the bench.
Miguel Herrera’s men broke the deadlock just after the half hour when Andres Guardado volleyed home his sixth goal of the tournament in front of almost 70,000 supporters at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.
The lead was doubled in the 47th minute via Jesus Corona and Oribe Peralta then added a third.
Darren Mattock pulled a goal back for Jamaica with ten minutes remaining but it proved nothing more than a consolation.
"We're very happy," Herrera told BBC Sport. "We dominated the ball. We got the rhythm we wanted and controlled the play. It's a great satisfaction for all of us."
The Gold Cup is a continental tournament which is competed for by sides from North and Central America and the Caribbean.
To all @WatfordFC supporters i just can say: cheers for being there, it's a pleasure be part of this amazing club! Can't wait to be there!
