LOASS (Leyton Orient Advanced Soccer School) Under-15 Girls beat Hampstead WFC 3-0 in the Capital Girls League Cup on Saturday.

A strong start by LOASS proved overwhelming for a usually nimble Hampstead side.

LOASS went 1-0 up inside ten minutes with a goal from in-form striker Loren George following a threaded through ball from midfielder Gemma Aldeen, who continued to provide stability and vision in the midfield throughout proceedings.

Once ahead, LOASS continued their swift passing moves, resisting all attacks thanks to courageous displays from Anna Brown and Maisey Ryan. Forward Shawna Harvey was brought down by a mistimed challenge in the area, which on any other occasion would have produced a red card from the referee’s pocket.

Harvey took the spot kick herself but seemed to scuff the contact and the shot rolled into the Hampstead keeper’s arms.

Hampstead had little to counter the LOASS offensive and on the odd occasion that they threatened the east Londoners’ net, full-back Molly Arthy and goalkeeper Fayth James were able to deal with all eventualities.

Harvey more than made up for her penalty miss by adding a second goal to the tally before winger Seren Ahmet popped up with a third after some very strong work on the right.

Head coach Joe Sheehan commented: “This was a thoroughly deserved victory and a great way to end a fantastic season.”

Meanwhile, LOASS Under-12 Girls finished as runners-up in the Essex League Cup Final against divisional newcomers Colebrook.

Basildon hosted the Essex Fa’s League Cup Finals on Sunday which saw LOASS conceded halfway through the first half after a long ball forward from the back allowed Colebrook forward to run onto the ball and slot under goalkeeper Jessie Burke.

But the east Londoners did not stop chasing every loose ball and contesting every 50:50 challenge, culminating in striker Jessica Benning getting onto the end of a pass from Brogan Jeffers-Cass and slotting the ball high into the top left-hand corner of the Colebrook net.

LOASS could now sense the Colebrook players’ heads had dropped and were able to lay siege on their opponents’ goal but they were thwarted more by luck than judgement.

Yet with 60 seconds left on the clock Colebrook struck the decisive blow from a long ball forward.

Sheehan said after the game: “This was a thrilling second-half display we just could not find the back of the net.

“The effort and desire was first class. The old adage applies here: if you don’t take your chances, you get punished.”

Both the Under-15 and Under-12 Girls will be playing in a national tournament being held at Warwick University Football Centre having been invited to contest the ESF National Finals on July 5.

LOASS will be holding Trials on Wednesday, May 20 at Rolls Park, E4 9JG, between 7pm and 8pm and on Thursday, May 21 at Leyton Jubilee Park, E10 7LX, between 5.30pm and 7pm.
