If you were asked to recall the three signings Watford made in the January transfer window then the names of Miguel Layun and Ben Watson are unlikely to be forgotten. The third is a little bit harder to remember.

And that is because defender Vujadin Savic has yet to make an appearance for the Hornets’ first-team.

The 24-year-old signed a short-term deal with the club until the end of the season on January 23 after impressing on trial.

The former Bordeaux centre-back went straight into the Hornets’ match-day squad despite having not played a competitive fixture since March 16, 2014.

He was an unused substitute as Watford thumped Blackpool 7-2 and was also on the bench for the Golden Boys’ 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth on January 30.

But he has not made a first-team match-day squad since and fell further down the pecking order following the loan signing of Matthew Connolly from Cardiff City last week.

However, Watford assistant coach Dean Austin says he has been impressed with Savic’s progress since his arrival at Vicarage Road.

“His development has been very good,” Austin said last week. “The problem for Sav though is that he hadn’t played for a long period of time before he joined the club.

“But as time has gone on he has become stronger and stronger and he has integrated really well into the group. We are really pleased with him.”
