Leeds United's Elland Road holds a special place in the heart of Watford assistant boss Dean Austin and he is confident the Hornets will produce against the Whites tomorrow after the Golden Boys’ players were given the day off yesterday.

The game against Neil Redfearn’s side will be the Hornets’ third match in the space of eight days.

Sean Murray is the only Watford player certain to miss the match but Austin admitted certain members of the Golden Boys squad are being “patched up”.

The busy schedule is why the club decided to give the players a chance to recharge their batteries instead of coming into training yesterday.

Austin explained: “We would normally be in every day when we are playing Saturday and Tuesday matches but we felt giving them a day off would be good for the players. It gives them a chance to freshen their minds.

“It was an open house today (Thursday). If they wanted to come in and train then they could have done. They just had to tell us.”

The past five meetings between Leeds and Watford have seen 25 goals scored, 17 of which have been netted by the Hornets.

Watford have won four of those matches but the game they failed to clinch victory resulted in the club missing out on automatic promotion to the Premier League in 2013. And given recent results, a rivalry between the two sides has grown.

Austin is looking forward to travelling to west Yorkshire as: “it is where I made my full debut for Tottenham in 1992.

“Elland Road will probably be only half full on Saturday but it will still be a fantastic arena to go and play football in.

“However, we don’t play occasions. We play the game in front of us and will try to achieve another three points.”

Austin continued: “I know Neil quite well because I did a coaching licence with him eight or nine years ago. So I am really pleased he has been give the opportunity there.

“Leeds have had difficulties this season but they are on a tidy run at the moment.

“They were obviously beaten on Tuesday night but the beauty of this division is that anyone is capable of beating anyone on their day.”
