West Ham United face competition from AC Milan and Newcastle United in their pursuit of Montpellier midfielder Morgan Sanson, according to talkSPORT.

The Hammers are keen on the 20-year-old who has scored four goals in 25 appearances this season and previously represented France at Under-19 and Under-21 level.

Sanson joined Montpellier from Le Mans in 2012 and it is believed he would cost around £7m.

The box-to-box midfielder extended his contract until 2018 in January, so Montpellier will be in a strong position to fend off offers.

West ham boss Sam Allardyce will have to compete with Newcastle - who are well-versed in the French market - and Milan to acquire the youngster.

Newcastle have a proven record of signing talented young players from Ligue 1 and selling them on for a profit and it appears the scouting network at St James Park have been impressed by Sanson.

However, Corriere dello Sport claim Milan have watched Sanson in his last two matches and are ahead of both Premier League clubs in the race to land his signature.
