Woodford Green with Essex Ladies had three winners at the British Universities Championships in Sheffield at the weekend, whilst Tiffany Porter was in action at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix.

There was a disappointing run for Team Great Britain’s Porter, who finished fourth in the 60m hurdles in Birmingham with a time of 8.13 seconds.

But it was a more profitable weekend for Omololu Abiodun, who won the 200m at the BUCS Championships. A time of 21.24 in the final sealed victory for Abiodun.

Tom Holligan narrowly missed out on a place in the final after losing out to Abiodun with a time of 22.01 in the semi-finals.

Woodford’s other winner was Youcef Zatat, winning the shot with a put of 16.50m. Zatat finished third at the British Championships the previous weekend.

There was also a win in the pole vault for HCA member Dan Gardner with a height of 5.35m.

Meanwhile, Emily Moss took silver in the 1500m by recording a time of 4.47.65, having gone a little quicker in her heat with 4.46.67.

At the National Cross Country Championships, Woodford finished sixth out of 145 clubs who succeeded in closing six men.

Twenty-five Woodford men took part, with Tom Phillips (88th), Harold Wyber (93rd), Martin Cryer (123rd), Tom Beedell (143rd), Angus Holford (185th) and Donatas Tumaitis (237rd) the first six athletes from the club to complete the championship course.

Woodford placed eighth in the nine-to-score competition, whilst Orion Harriers were 44th from 74 finishers.
