A Charles Gyamfi brace inspired Leytonstone FC to a 5-2 win over Korona Redbridge on Saturday in the London City Airport League.

Korona could have taken the lead but were wasteful in their finishing and twice hit the bar before Leytonstone broke the deadlock.

Gyamfi sent the Korona goalkeeper the wrong way from 12 yards on two occasions to hand the Lemons a 2-0 half-time lead.

It was a similar story after the break, with Leytonstone controlling the contest. A third goal arrived when Justin Hountkapin finished well on his right foot.

However, a defensive lapse allowed Redbridge to get a goal back from a set piece.

Sergio Garcia quickly restored the Lemons’ three-goal lead, latching onto Kevin Rabey’s goal kick and finishing stylishly.

But just two minutes later Korona pulled back a second goal with a low strike.

Better was to come from Leytonstone, who grabbed a fifth goal on the counter attack. Ahmed Pele picked up a Micah Stennett pass and played a long ball to Daniel Owusu, who out-paced the nearest Korona defender before rounding the goalkeeper to score.

Leytonstone manager Munaf Abhram said afterwards: “It’s nice to pick up the three points but more importantly I was extremely proud of my team for showing a fighting spirit and commitment throughout the game.”
