Doncaster Rovers have confirmed they are set to sign Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu on loan until the end of the season - 24 hours after it was announced he would be staying at Crewe Alexandra.

A Championship club had also been in talks with the Hornets over signing Ikpeazu but we understand the Golden Boys were keen for the 19-year-old to join a club challenging for promotion, with 11th-placed Doncaster only two points below the League One play-off places with two games in hand.

Ikpeazu has today travelled to South Yorkshire to hold advanced talks and a Rovers spokesperson confirmed to the Doncaster Free Press: "Uche is on his way to Doncaster and we’re hoping to sign him on loan until the end of the season."

Yesterday the Hornets announced Ikpeazu was due to spend the rest of the season with Crewe, having made eight appearances during his most recent loan spell.

But this morning the 19-year-old was recalled, with Watford confirming he was set to join another team on loan.

Ikpeazu netted twice in seven starts for Steve Davis' side after joining in November and the former Reading youngster scored four times in ten starts last season for the Cheshire outfit.
