Leyton Orient midfielder Romain Vincelot believes the O’s have put aside their mental ‘paranoia’ at Brisbane Road after beating Crewe Alexandra 4-1, but says the focus must now turn to why they won.

Mauro Milanese’s side had failed to taste victory in League One at home this season before Saturday’s resounding win over fellow strugglers Crewe, but the combative Frenchman insists Orient have now put their problems behind them.

Vincelot explained: “Sometimes everything is in the head, so you have to battle with your own head to make sure you concentrate. It is all about little jitters or little efforts to say, ‘I have to do it’ or the one yard to say, ‘I have to be in front of him’.

“We have had a little bit of paranoia lately because everything has cost us. The little mistake 50 yards from goal will lead to a goal against us, so I think we have tried really hard in training with Mauro (Milanese).”

The former Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder was quick to laud the influence of the former Italy international on the training ground.

“He identified every little mistake that has cost us. It has been long and it could have been boring but we have to do it because there is no other solution than repeat, repeat, repeat until we just fix it,” he said.

“I think all his background – he played at the top in Italy and it is a country that tactically is really aware of little details. He gave us some tips and we took it on board and thankfully today that paid off.”

Vincelot continued: “It can be hard because I think there is no single game where we have been really bad and the other team have really been on top of us. It has really been us at some point switching off or just little jitters and it makes it easy for them to score, or they will score from 30 yards.”

“Then it is hard because then you start to not to think positively enough. You don’t shoot from 25 yards because you have to do another pass because you won’t score. Everything gets harder and you are like, ‘How do we get a win?’ I think today we just stepped over that.”

And after goals from Gianvito Plasmati, Chris Dagnall, Dean Cox and David Mooney sealed not only Orient’s first home league win in nine, but Milanese’s maiden league win as Orient boss, Vincelot says the approach only needs tweaking.

“We were looking at what was not working and why it was not going our way, now we have to look at why today it went our way. We have to identify all the little reasons it went our way,” he concluded.
