Watford were beaten 3-2 by Birmingham City at Vicarage Road.
Keith Eddy's penalty was his sixth goal of the season - five of which were from the spot - making him the club's leading scorer to this point. This fact was regarded as an "indictment of Watford's frugal fare in front of goal" by the Watford Observer.
The day also saw the opening of the new Main Stand extension, which had cost the club £45,000 the previous summer and significantly increased the seated capacity at the ground.
