The mean defence constructed by manager Eddie Hapgood was given a stern test at Vicarage Road by the visit of Nottingham Forest.
A crowd of more than 17,000 witnessed Johnny Hartburn score the only goal of an exciting Divison Three (South) fixture with ten minutes to play, Tommy Eggleston clearing off the line to deny Forest a late equaliser.
