Steve Wigley says Watford are one of the best sides Nottingham Forest have played this season and believes they are capable of sustaining their promotion challenge.

The Forest assistant boss watched on as his side twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road last night and was complimentary in his assessment of the Hornets when he spoke to the media after the game.

Wigley said: “There’s [Watford] as good as we’ve played this season. I watched the game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and they were excellent, but it’s the Championship. They’re in their rich vein of form at the minute. We’ll see if they can keep it going.

“It’s a slog of a season but they’re going to be competing up there with five or six teams that will all think they’ve got a chance of going up in the top two and then you can add another five that will think they can get in the play-offs.

“I said it at the start of the season I think every year there’s probably 14 teams that can get in the play-offs in this division, then it starts to filter down to about ten. I still think it’s up at about 14 at the minute when I look at the league table.

“It’s a competitive league but they are a good side and they’ve brought good players in from abroad, which is unusual for this division but the connections they’ve got with Udinese and Granada has really helped them.”

Asked if he could see any side pulling away at the top, Wigley responded: “Unless somebody goes like five straight wins, I think it’s going to be you could drop three places, you could go up three places, it’s very much that.

“I think the two form teams at the minute are Watford and Derby, but as we’ve seen we had a good run at the start of the season, then we’ve had to dig in a little bit and we’re hoping we’re going to go on our charge again. We had a few injuries that just derailed us a little bit, but we’re overcoming that and other people have come in and done good jobs.”
