Troy Deeney is back in full training and his fitness will be assessed before Saturday’s match with Sheffield Wednesday.

The hamstring injury Deeney suffered at Blackpool ruled him out for a month and the Hornets captain missed four matches.

But head of medical Marco Cesarini today confirmed the 26-year-old returned to full training yesterday and might be fit enough to feature at Hillsborough.

Watford’s attacking options have also been boosted with the news Fernando Forestieri is fully fit after an eye injury forced him to miss the previous two matches.

The Hornets will be without three of their centre halves as Craig Cathcart (calf), Gabriele Angella (ankle) and Gabriel Tamas (knee) are all sidelined.

Tamas is out for several months and on Angella, Cesarini added: “Angella had an assessment on Monday and it was good news so we are little bit ahead of his recovery programme, but he will not be available for all of the matches in October.

“He doesn’t need surgery so we will carry on with conservative treatment.”

Experienced midfielder Keith Andrews is also out with a calf problem.

Juan Carlos Paredes, Ikechi Anya, Jonathan Bond and Josh Doherty were all given an extra day off yesterday to recover following international duty. They will be assessed today (Friday).

Anya posted a picture on Twitter following Scotland’s 2-2 draw with Poland on Tuesday night of his calf strapped up, having suffered with the problem in the build-up to the game.

But Cesarini said: “We were in touch with the medical department of Scotland and the fitness test before the match went well so he played the 90 minutes. After the game there was not a strange reaction so we have to assess him over the weekend.”

Cesarini also confirmed Bernard Mensah and Uche Ikpeazu are taking part in full training following their long lay-offs with knee and ankle injuries respectively.

Watford go into tomorrow’s match in third place, level on points with league leaders Norwich City.

Sheffield Wednesday have also made a strong start after avoiding the drop last term and Stuart Gray’s side currently sit ninth in the table.
