Watford beat Luton Town 2-1 in the second round of the Southern Charity Cup, William Flint and Billy Wheeler grabbing the goals for the home side.
Wing-half and regular reserve-team captain Bert Gale made his second senior start almost ten years after his debut for the club.
Watford went out in the next round, losing to Brighton & Hove Albion in the semi-final staged at neutral Cold Blow Lane.
