Pyne clan prepare for Marathon
THE Pyne family will be out in force for Sunday's London Marathon.
The family of four are all members of Dartford Harriers AC and are Jan, 59, her partner Mick Cox, 62, daughter Katie Pyne, 32, and son Daniel, 22.
Daniel earned an automatic entry to this year's marathon thanks to an excellent time in last year's event of 2hr58m.
Katie will be running for the Breast Cancer Haven Charity and Jan for the Darent Valley Hospital Heartbeat Appeal.
Training for the family has included taking part in several road races and they won the third family prize at the recent Hastings half marathon.
Daniel won a prize of £13 as the 20th man home.
March 30 saw the Pyne family, as well as Dartford Harriers' road running section, in action at the Paddock Wood half marathon, where Daniel produced a personal best time of 1hr16m24s to finish in 17th place.
Meanwhile, last Saturday's Medway & Maidstone open graded meeting at Deangate attracted entries from members of Dartford Harriers.
Although there was a lack of good class competition, there were some excellent performances.
Grade one English athletics standards were attained by last year's Kent javelin champion Tim Billings, Samantha Brown in the 75m hurdles and her younger sister Gemma in the discus.
Tim and Samantha's performances were also within the English Schools' standards, though they will have to match these results in order to qualify for the English Schools' Championships later in the season.
