Hickmott smashes record at Tonbridge

THE weather was one of the talking points at the traditional Easter Monday Tonbridge AC Open track and field meeting.

Snow showers and strong icy cold winds swept across the arena, which lies open to the Sevenoaks Weald, behind Tonbridge School for Boys.

There is, as yet, very little shelter with the new club facilities still under construction.

Despite the battles with the weather, there were some sparkling performances.

The top performance for Dartford Harriers AC came from 14-year-old Natalie Hickmott.

She smashed the club under-15 300m record of 44s out of sight with her time of 41.5s.

In so doing, she exceeded the England athletics grade own standard for the under-17 age group and was fastest female at the meeting over 300m.

The Brown family were out in force with 14-year-old Samantha winning her sprint and hurdles events and younger sister Gemma winning the under-13 discus with a personal best.

Mum Donna had her share of the glory, setting a new W40 Club record for 150m after a 20-year absence from competition.
