Hardy I&I runners brave the elements
ALWAYS a popular event with Istead's runners, the 25th running of the Folkestone 10-mile Good Friday race proved to be a surprise for all who took part.
The strong cold wind blowing off the land made conditions difficult as it did not give much help on the five-mile run to the turn.
It was slightly in front of the runners on the way back along the promenade, particularly along the open part from Sandgate to the beginning of Hythe's seafront buildings.
Eighteen of Istead's runners started this race, but only 16 were there at the finish.
There were good times at the front of the field, but the later runners suffered from being out in the wind for a long time.
I&I results: 20th - Mark Champion 1hr01m31s; 31st - Dave Abery 1hr03m10s; 45th - Jurgen Imschoot 1hr04m54s; 54th - Andy Archer 1hr05m35s; 98th - Alan Cowan 1hr10m44s; 111th - Joe Cumberland 1hr11m55s; 156th - Steven Hollands (no time available); 193rd - Mark Lucas 1hr17m28s; 264th - Angela Hames 1hr23m10s; 286th - Mel Moore 1hr24m24s; 331st (first over 70) - Bob Carter 1hr29m36s; 366th - Lesley Irvine 1hr33m04s; 371st - Gillian Calliste 1hr33m31s; 453rd - Helen Fooks 1hr43m37s; 468th - Mary Penfold and Debbie Tyler both in 1hr49m26s.
