Dartford Harriers duo make top three finishes

PAT Halstead and Cara Oliver enjoyed top three finishes in their respective age groups at last month’s masters cross country championships in Tunbridge Wells.

Dartford Harriers sent seven runners to the meeting, where Halstead placed third in the W55 category and Oliver matching the effort in the W35s.

Other results: M40 men - Tony Durey 17th (33m44s); M50 men - Dave Kitcher 28th (38m24s); M60 men - Bob Coombes 25th (24m49s), Paul Hills 26th (25m07s); W45 women - Steph Wood 14th (25m11s).

The following day saw six Dartford Harriers in action at the Metaswitch Indoor Games, a popular meeting held at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre.

Isio Orugun, who is 13, produced two personal bests, winning the U15 60m in 8.29s and placing fourth in the 200m in 27.57s.

Her older sister Naomi Orugun, 14, was 2nd in the U17 60m in 8.36s and third in the 200m with a personal best of 27.31s.

In the U20 ladies’ events, 18-year-old Natalie Hickmott won the 200m in 26.89s and also claimed a prize of £20 donated by the sponsors of the event. Sister Lucy Hickmott, 17, was third in the 200m in 27.14s.

In the U15 boys’ category, Lewis Jackson was third in the 60m with a pb of 7.77s, with Joe Millman also producing a pb of 5.52m in the long jump for sixth place.
