Brands Hatch’s tarmac will be open to the public on March 1 when runners of all abilities take part in the inaugural British Heart Foundation (BHF) Brands Hatch half marathon and 10K event.

The multi-terrain route covers the famous 2.4 mile (3.9 km) Grand Prix circuit as well as the pits and paddock, access roads and the venue’s gravel rally stage.

The route will be fully sign-posted, and marshals will be on hand to assist.

Being active is an important part of reducing the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and to assist novice runners BHF is offering expert advice and planning as part of a support package.

This includes a route map, event T-shirt, fundraising support, timing chip, medical support and a medal for all finishers.

Facilities on the day will include a luggage store and changing facilities, with water and toilets at the start and finish and en route. First aid cover will be provided, and there will be plenty of catering outlets.

Runners will also be offered a massage at the finish line in exchange for a charity donation.

BHF regional event organiser Alistair Hills said: “We are very excited about the first BHF Half Marathon and 10K event at Brands Hatch.

“The route offers a unique running experience around the GP circuit and rally section as well as the internal paths and tracks of the venue.

“There are still places available and we can’t wait for March 1 to welcome our supporters and runners, and help them do their part in the fight against heart disease.”

Entry costs £26 for the half marathon route, which is open to all aged 17 and over, or £19 for the 10K route, which is open to all aged 15 and over.

All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The entry fee covers the cost of organising the event.

Runners are encouraged to raise sponsorship funds with support from BHF, who can also help to organise a fundraising web page.

Participants are encouraged to bring family and friends to the event.

Spectating is free and there are opportunities to help out as a volunteer.
