Adam Gemili and Dina Asher Smith set meeting best performances in the 100m on day one of the Bedford International Games on a Super Saturday of sprinting from Blackheath & Bromley Harriers athletes.

Having dipped his toe in the competitive water in the BUCS at the start of the month, Gemili has since been deep in revision for his exams.

He emerged on Saturday to post a blistering 10.08s, just three hundredths of a second off his personal best and his equal fourth fastest time ever.

More than content with his performance, the Dartford star opted not to race in the second set of 100m races and instead is looking forward to competing in the Diamond League 100m in Rome on Wednesday.

Asher-Smith did compete in both rounds, breaking the meeting best performance twice.

In the first race she timed 11.31s, with B&B Harriers team-mate and British record holder Montell Douglas in second with 11.55s.

Asher-Smith took another tenth off her new record in race two by clocking 11.21s, with Douglas third in 11.51s.

An in depth feature with Dina appeared on last week's edition of Transworld Sport, which included interviews with her, coach John Blackie and mum Julie, plus extensive footage of her and her training group at Bromley’s Norman Park track.

Remarkably of the five first round male 100m races, four were won by Blackheath & Bromley athletes.

Kieran Daly took race two with 10.49s with Tremayne Gilling (race three 10.55s) and Duayne Bovell (race five 10.84s) both setting season's bests.

The magic of the black vest didn’t stop there as in the second round Daly improved to 10.40s and Gilling to 10.54s before Luke Smallwood won race one of the 200m in 21.54s and Daly race two in 21.00s, both of which were personal bests.

Continuing the track success for B&B Harriers, Dan Putnam was third in his 400m race in 47.40s.

There was also a strong club presence in the field, as Zara Asante and Kerri Davidson were third and fourth in the triple jump with leaps of 12.27m and 12.60m.

Jahisha Thomas was fifth in the long jump (5.55m) and Shaunagh Brown sixth in both the hammer and discus with throws of 59.67m and 48.79m.

Earlier in the week in Belgium, Luke Smallwood took time out from his photo finish business to fit in a race at the Peugeot Sint-Niklaascup.

He won the 400m hurdles in a new best of 52.87s. Also in Belgium at the Atletissima meeting at Namur, Dan Putnam won his heat of the 400m in 47.57s.
