Newly-promoted Dartford Harriers celebrated an opening day victory in the first round of the southern athletics league at Sutcliffe Park on Saturday.

Last season’s division three champions achieved a 14-point victory over host club Cambridge Harriers (192pts).

Epsom & Ewell were third (166pts) and St Mary’s Richmond fourth (131pts).

The competition served as a strong season opener for many of the Dartford athletes, who shook off the cobwebs of six months of winter training to put in a series of strong performances, many recording personal bests.

The competition is a joint league for both A and B-string men and women.

Among the first place track successes were: Kat Sutton (800m A 2m19.2s), Rebecca Wilby (800m B 2m30.3s), Alex Cameron (1,500m 4m20.8s), Andrew Green (5,000m B 17m58.0s), Claire Capon (100m hurdles A 17.14s), Hannah Sutton (100m hurdles B 21.80s), Thomas Howlett (110m hurdles 16.03s), Alexander Atkins (400m hurdles A 58.7s), Naomi Orogun (400m hurdles A 72.0s), Capon (400m hurdles B 72.0s), Steve Caller (2,000m steeplechase B 7m38.2s), Orogun, Sutton, Bonnie Maugey and Sutton (4x400m relay 4m19.5s).
