BLACKHEATH runner Sabrina Sinha won gold at the London Youth Games cross country after a thrilling race at Parliament Hill.

The English schools international held off last season’s English U13s champion Katy-Ann McDonald of Wandsworth in a tight sprint finish to triumph at the event for the third successive year.

More than 1,200 youngsters competed at the iconic central London venue across three age groups in male and female competitions.

Greenwich placed 22nd overall in the female competition at an event that saw double Olympic champion Mo Farah compete back in 1994, where he placed ninth in the male U13s race.

But 14-year old Cambridge Harrier Sinha was one of the stars of the day covering the muddy and hilly 2km course in 7m11s, just two seconds ahead of silver medallist McDonald to win the female U15s race.

The Bromley High School student said: “It’s amazing to win again, I started off well but Katy-Ann soon caught up.

“I had to sprint to the finish which I didn’t like.

“Getting my third win here and being the favourite is really scary because I’ve got people like Katy-Ann and everyone else I competed against and they’re all really good.”
