Jason Pearce wants the Charlton takeover wrapped up as soon as possible - and has urged the club to sign experienced players this summer.

Wantaway owner Roland Duchatelet is close to ending his four-and-a-half-year spell at the Valley with Australian tycoon Andrew Muir set to take over.

Pearce, who captained Charlton in their play-off semi-final exit to Shrewsbury, said: “Going back to when Lee Bowyer came in [as caretaker manager in March], people wrote us off, but we still believed we’d reach the top six.

“Once we got there, we wanted to go all the way to Wembley and go up. So every single player is disappointed.

“But there are going to be a lot of changes in the summer with the takeover, hopefully that gets sorted quickly.

“We’ve got a lot of loan players [who have gone back to their clubs] so there are going to be a lot of changes. Hopefully the club regroups and we can have a good go next year.

“The nucleus of the squad is good enough [to win promotion to the Championship].

“We need to add some quality players. Look at the clubs that have gone up, they've got experienced League One players and some who have played at a higher level.

“We need to make sure we recruit well. I hope to be a part of that. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

“I’ve tasted promotion before and I want to do it again and I know the lads want to.

“The takeover needs to be sorted quickly so we can recruit and get things in order next season.”

Pearce, Patrick Bauer, Josh Magennis and Nicky Ajose were the only outfield players, who started against Shrewsbury on Sunday, over the age of 25.

While the defender acknowledges Charlton’s talented young stars, he believes more experienced players are needed next season.

Pearce, 30, added: “Charlton have had some real good young players coming through with the likes of Joe Aribo and Ezri Konsa.

“We’ve got some real good talented young players but we need some experience in there as well.

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens. It would be nice if it [the takeover] could happen quickly.”

Pearce featured 29 times for Charlton last season and was one of their standout performers.

He has two years left to run on his Addicks deal and wants to help the club return to the Championship at the third time of asking.

He said: “I’d love to be here next season. It’s happened before when new owners have come in and want their own players.

“As a player, you don't know what can happen. My face could fit or it might not fit.

“All I’ve done this season is try to give my all every time I’ve played and hopefully that’s good enough.”
