Lee Bowyer won’t have a problem picking up his Charlton players after their 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury last night.

Jon Nolan’s late goal gave the Shrews a vital lead heading into the play-off semi-final second leg on Sunday.

The Addicks, who wasted early first-half chances, had a post-match team huddle led by caretaker boss Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson.

“We did it to tell them it’s not over,” Bowyer explained. “When you lose, your emotions go from up there to down there. It’s the adrenaline and everything so you’ve got to pick them up, otherwise they’ll be feeling too down.

“I want them to feel down and hurt. But not too much because then it’s harder to pick them up. They’ll be fine for Sunday.

“I’ll show them some of the stuff that was negative out there and speak to them individually and tell them how good they are because they are good players.

“You don't just go and do what they've done since I’ve been in charge [win six out of 10 games] and get to this situation without being a good team.

“That’s all I need to do, I won’t need to do much. They’re all winners in there.”

Charlton picked up a crucial win at Shrewsbury to reignite their play-off charge last month.

Goals from Jason Pearce and Josh Magennis moved the Addicks back into the top six.

“Shrewsbury are going to turn up at home,” Bowyer added. “They’ll probably waste time from the beginning and try to break the game up.

“But once we get chances we have to take them.

“We will create chances. I think we’ll be fine - there’s still a long way to go.”
