Charlton’s place in the play-offs was confirmed on the final day of the season.

The Addicks finished sixth despite losing 1-0 to Rochdale.

Here are five things we learned…

Bring on Shrewsbury

Charlton have won six of their last 10 games under the guidance of caretaker boss Lee Bowyer.

It’s said that form goes out of the window in these crucial games, but Shrewsbury will be wary of Charlton’s threat.

The Addicks look solid at the back and dangerous going forward - the perfect combination.

Michal Zyro and Sullay Kaikai wasted an opportunity to impress... again

Bowyer rested Josh Magennis and Nicky Ajose - strikers who have enjoyed a return to form in recent weeks - against Rochdale.

Zyro and Kaikai were their replacements and failed to perform. Zyro’s hold-up play was poor, while Kaikai drifted in and out of the game.

Having said that, Bowyer was happy with the Crystal Palace loanee’s display, but most Charlton fans were not.

The team’s unity is there to see

Ajose and Harry Lennon were left out of the matchday squad on Saturday, but still travelled up to Spotland to support their team-mates.

Lennon is yet to play a single minute of football under Bowyer and as mentioned above, Ajose was rested.

But it shows the togetherness in the squad that two first-team players made the long trip up north despite being omitted from the 18-man squad.

It’s great to see.

There is another selection dilemma for Bowyer

Aribo was one of few Charlton players who looked like creating something as the visitors registered just two shots on target on Saturday.

It’s hard to think of a bad game he’s had this season.

But the midfielder has always been behind Jake Forster-Caskey and Ahmed Kashi when they’ve been fully fit. It’s the latter’s return to fitness coupled with a shin injury that’s cost Aribo his starting berth.

Aribo’s impressive performance against Rochdale will have given Bowyer something to think about ahead of the play-off semi-final first leg on Thursday.

The poor performance should NOT be a concern

Bowyer made four changes for the trip to Rochdale with Thursday’s game in mind.

Charlton’s play-off spot was all but guaranteed heading into the match given their superior goal difference over Plymouth.

So it was always going to be hard for them to be at their absolute best. A Zyro header that harmlessly went over the bar was the Addicks’ best chance of the game.

With Ben Reeves, Josh Magennis and Nicky Ajose likely to return for the Shrewsbury game, fans can expect to see a better performance.
