George Saville scored his ninth Championship goal of the season as Millwall extended their unbeaten league run to 11 games with a hard-fought victory over London rivals Brentford at the Den.

Here are five things we learned...

Lightning strikes twice for speedy George Saville

Saville completed a unique double this week as Millwall’s top scorer opened the scoring after 51 seconds against Brentford, just like he did on Tuesday against Hull City.

The Lions caught the Bees with their fast start, winning the ball back high up the pitch, before Jed Wallace headed through for Saville to confidently help himself to his ninth Championship goal of the season.

The play-off charge is starting to gather pace

A top-six finish was not even murmured around the Den until Millwall won three consecutive games at the back end of February and were suddenly just eight points off the play-offs. The draw with Sunderland last weekend seemed to end all hope, but two wins in the space of four days has got everyone talking again.

Neil Harris said that after the game on Saturday was the first time this season that he has mentioned the play-offs to his players, to set them a challenge and his side could move within three points of six-placed Middlesbrough if they achieve a club record sixth consecutive away league victory.

The Lions rode their luck

Millwall have left plenty of games this season wondering how they came away with nothing, which is probably how Brentford felt when they department South Bermondsey on Saturday evening.

Sergi Canos and John Egan came closest for the Bees as both struck the woodwork, before Henrik Dalsgaard’s corner was nearly fumbled into his own net by Jordan Archer, only for James Meredith to incredibly cleared off the to keep the Lions in front.

Another clean sheet to add to the ever-growing collection

Millwall have already matched their total number of clean sheets this season (14) as they achieved throughout their whole campaign and you would be surprised if they have to work harder for one for the remainder of the season.

Millwall prove that possession is meaningless

The Lions had just more than 32  per cent possession against Brentford and completed only 156 successful passes throughout the 90 minutes with only Cardiff (140) in their victory over Birmingham on Saturday making fewer in the whole of the Championship this weekend.
