Charlton have reignited their interest in Sheffield United midfielder Samir Carruthers.

Addicks star Ricky Holmes is expected to join the Blades after being seen at the Steel City derby last night.

Holmes, 30, signed a bumper three-year deal last summer so Charlton should get a healthy fee for the winger - unless Carruthers is involved in a straight swap.

It remains to be seen whether Carruthers will be included in the deal or if Valley boss Karl Robinson will be able to reinvest any cash on new players.

Owner Roland Duchatelet is reluctant to pump any more money into a club he is looking to sell.

Robinson tried to bring Carruthers to SE7 last January, but the 24-year-old joined the Blades. The pair worked together at MK Dons for three years.

And despite winning promotion to the Championship with Chris Wilder’s men last season, Carruthers’ playing time has been limited. He has made just six league starts in 12 months.

Blades boss Wilder signed central midfielders Ryan Leonard and Lee Evans earlier this week which will push Carruthers further down the pecking order.

The former Aston Villa man, who has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal, was dropped from the squad for the goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday last night.

And a permanent or loan move to Charlton for London-born Carruthers would drastically increase his first-team chances.
