Millwall midfielder Shaun Williams has revealed how Byron Webster helped him in his recovery from injury.

The pair suffered knee injuries in September, which ruled Webster out for most of the season.

Williams made his first-team return as a late substitute against Aston Villa last weekend.

And the 31-year-old says Webster motivated him during his rehabilitation.

Williams told News Shopper: “It was nice to come back at the end of 10 long weeks.

“My first day back training was meant to be on Boxing Day, so everything is a bonus so far.

“Byron Webster was a big help. He was great company in a bad situation.

“But he just motivated me every day and showed me how motivated he was and I know he’s got a lot longer than I had but he was a big help.

“He was upbeat every day and I had less of an injury than he had and if he was in that mind frame, I don’t see why I shouldn’t have been.”

Millwall missed Williams’ influence from midfield and won just twice in his absence.

But they have picked up four points in their last two games against Sheffield United and Aston Villa.

And Williams is hoping for seven points out of nine when they host Middlesbrough on Saturday.

He said: “It was tough because we weren’t playing too well, and I couldn’t do anything to affect it.

“Luckily enough the last two results have been good so hopefully more results will follow.

“I could’ve been in the team during a bad run of form so I don’t think it’s all down to me. It's just how it panned out.”
