Joe Dodoo is set to return to Rangers when his loan deal expires next month.

The striker was signed on transfer deadline day in August to replace the departing Lee Novak.

Despite scoring on his Addicks debut, Dodoo has made just eight appearances under Charlton boss Karl Robinson. He hasn’t featured in League One action since September.

And Dodoo’s luck went from bad to worse when he injured his calf in the warm-up against AFC Wimbledon on Sunday.

Robinson said: “He did his calf in the warm-up - that’s another player we have out.

“He’s not played many minutes, it is what it is. Sometimes with loans, whether it’s my fault, possibly, they don't always hit the ground running the way you expect.

“There are so many fundamental reasons for that. It’s never to be disrespectful to people.

“He probably would've started on Tuesday [against Swansea U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy] which would have been another opportunity for him but he was injured.”
