Charlton striker Josh Magennis can’t wait to play alongside Ben Reeves.

Reeves, 25, is yet to make his League One bow for the Addicks since joining on a free transfer last month. He did not have a pre-season after leaving MK Dons in May, and is still building up his fitness.

Valley boss Karl Robinson said he expects Reeves to play a part in Charlton's next two games against Walsall and Fleetwood.

Magennis knows the playmaker from their time together with Northern Ireland. The pair came on as substitutes against Greece in 2014, and then started in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Scotland the following year.

And Charlton's top scorer, who netted his fourth goal of the season against Bury on Saturday, hopes Reeves will be a success in SE7.

He told News Shopper: “I know Reevesy from the Northern Ireland camps. He’s been in a couple of preliminary squads.

“But unfortunately when he was at MK Dons, he was blighted by injuries. He was in and out and there wasn't really a consistent base for [Northern Ireland manager] Michael O'Neill to pick him.

“There’s no doubting he’s a quality player. He’s got enough to unlock defences. And if he does well here and he’s part of a successful team, he sort of forces his way back into that hold.

“I’m hoping for him that he’s able to do it, and Michael O'Neill will be as well because it just adds another string to his bow for the squad.

“I’m very excited to play alongside him, if I get that opportunity because I know he’s another player who can create chances.”
