Leyton Orient fell to a 3-1 defeat to Barnet at Brisbane Road courtesy of a Ricardo Santos double scoring both within a minute of one another.

The first half should have seen Barnet two or three up had John Akinde not missed good opportunities to break the deadlock.

Paul McCallum found the back of the net from a Callum Kennedy corner late on in the second half but it was not to be for the E10 side before Curtis Weston said goodbye to the O’s comeback.

Andy Edwards once again fielded a depleted side and will hope he can bring in the much-needed talent during the transfer window.

Before the match kicked off a minute silence was held for former Orient player Paul Went who sadly passed away earlier in the week.

Orient won an early corner and Kennedy’s delivery was dropped by Jamie Stephens but he went on to collect the ball in his second attempt.

Akinde had every chance to open the scoring in the fourth minute when Curtis Weston played in a vital cross but his shot went wide of the post.

Two minutes later, Josh Koroma cut inside on the edge of the area but Stephens parried the shot away before Nigel Atangana was unable to score from the rebound.

The Bees had to make an early substitution when Stephens had to make way with a recurrence of an injury from earlier in the week for Josh Vickers.

Michael Collins almost netted the opener but his shot from 20-yards out took the slightest of deflections and the resulting corner came to nothing.

Akinde made a vital pass across goal to Santos but the defender was unable to get a touch on the ball.

Alex Cisak was called into action on the half an hour mark when Simeon Akinola made the Aussie dive to his right from a half volley but the resulting corner came to nothing.

Akinde proved to be a one-man threat and powered past Tom Parkes but Cisak managed to save with his feet before the striker tapped the ball out for a goal-kick.

Cisak made one of the finest saves in the first half when he got a slight touch on a shot from Mauro Vilhete who had darted past two Orient players just before the end of the first half.

Orient enjoyed the start of the second half with most of the possession but was unable to get any shots away as Gavin Massey’s cross was cleared with no one available in the box.

And with no help from Orient defence, Cisak spilled a header and allowed Santos to tap the ball home for the rebound.

No more than 30 seconds later the January signing had made it 2-0 with a lovely flick from inside the six-yard box.

However, the O’s dug their heels in and got their just reward in the 79th minute when McCallum headed home from a Kennedy corner.

Orient looked to find the equaliser and almost had their chance two minutes from time when Collin’s touch was touched forward for Atangana but Vickers made the save.

And it was game, set and match to the North Londoners when Weston scored the rebound when Jamal Campbell-Ryce hit the crossbar with only Parkes on the goal line.
