Millwall Football Club have admitted for the first time that they may be forced to relocate if Lewisham council redevelopment plans are forced through.
The land that surrounds the Den is set to be developed by off-shore company Renewal, and Lewisham Council voted to pass a Compulsory Purchase Order.
Millwall's chief executive Steve Kavanagh admitted that if the plans go through the club may be forced to leave Lewisham after more than 100 years in the borough.
He told The Guardian: "The chairman has always been determined that this would never happen, but under such circumstances any and every option would have to be considered to secure the football club and the Millwall Community Trust’s future as viable concerns.”
The dispute has been long running, with concerns being raised about Lewisham council's involvement with Renewal.
The chief executive of Renewal is a former Lewisham officer, and the development company was originally set up by previous Mayor Dave Sullivan.
A decision is expected to be made on Wednesday evening at a meeting of the Mayor and Cabinet.
