Leyton Orient boss Andy Edwards admitted he would have a pint or two after Leyton Orient won their first league win at Brisbane Road since August defeating Accrington Stanley 1-0.

Jay Simpson scored the only goal of the game in the second half after Stanley went down to 10-men when Sean McConville was sent off in the 24th minute for denying Gavin Massey of a goal scoring opportunity.

It is a much-needed boost for the E10 club with the likes of Cambridge United and Crawley Town still to visit the Matchroom Stadium during the festive period.

“I think it was important to rest our voodoo of our poor form at home so to get a positive result in any shape or form was the aim and we achieved that,” said the 45-year-old.

“We (Danny Webb and himself) had two games as interim where we kept a clean sheet and had the famous game against Plymouth Argyle.

“We had a really difficult time at Doncaster two weeks ago as I expect them to get promoted. But I thought we stuck to the task in that game and it was the same today.

“Fortunately, today we had a positive result.”

Orient last won on August 16 in League Two in a 3-0 win over Stevenage and have since gone on an eight-game losing streak.

When asked why he thought there were issues with playing at home over the last couple of years Edwards said: “I don’t know.

“It is hard to put my finger on it. I certainly think it is a stadium and a pitch that teams enjoy coming to. I think in some ways it is a motivational thing for some teams.

“I think as a fairly big club in this league it is a great stadium. The groundsman does too good of a job of the pitch in some ways as he inspires the opposition a bit.

“But there is a little bit of a confidence issue with a home record in a number of League Two sides in the bottom half of the table.

“I am not going to keep looking back at things, it is about looking forward. And the one today hopefully we can build on it at the next home game.

“In between those times we have got to face an inform Wycombe Wanderers side.”

It will be a tough task next week but the former Academy Director was taking today’s win in his stride.

“I will have a couple of pints tonight to celebrate. I think my wife will be relieved as it has been a bit of a long week,” added Edwards.

“But I have enjoyed this evening and I am sure the players will enjoy it as well along with the rest of the staff.”
