Spurs leave it late to see off Rams

Tottenham assistant Gus Poyet admitted Derby County were a harder nut to crack than fans thought they would be.

Spurs had to wait until the final 20 minutes for the three goals that eventually saw off the rock-bottom Rams at Pride Park.

Poyet said: "It was tricky, especially in the opening hour, but the players are learning what we want from them and, in the last half an hour, we were fresher and took control.

"It was a big test for us, more than people probably think, and it was important that we came here and won because we want to move forward and be consistent in the league."

Robbie Keane set Spurs on the way, before Younes Kaboul doubled the advantage. Dimitar Berbatov then wrapped it up from the penalty spot after an Alan Stubbs handball.

The final score was somewhat tough on Derby, but Spurs still did more than enough to deserve all three points.

They now turn their attention to Europe, with Thursday's UEFA Cup match at Slavia Prague to look forward to.
