Granville could be answer to Ling's left-back problems

AFTER ruling out a move to bring Orient legend Matt Lockwood back to Brisbane Road, Martin Ling may look to Colchester's Danny Granville to solve his left-back problem.

Reports had suggested that Ling would make a move for Nottingham Forest's Lockwood, just one year after letting the full-back leave for the City Ground, but the O's boss has dismissed the claims out of hand.

He said: "If I'm honest I would say there is absolutely no chance that Matt will be coming back to us this summer.

"He left us last year for Forest and joined them on very good money, but in my opinion I would say we've already had the best out of Matt Lockwood at Orient.

"I know people and fans will always look at this dream case scenario of bringing back a player like him, but after nine great years I think it is a case of moving on and not looking back as far as Matt is concerned."

And it appears more likely that former Chelsea defender Granville could be a realistic target for Ling, as he looks for a replacement for Charlie Daniels after he returned to Spurs.

It is understood that Granville, 33, would prefer to continue his career in the Championship after suffering relegation with Colchester, but Ling may look to persuade him to drop down a level with the O's.

Granville, who can also play at centre-back, would add plenty of experience to Orient's backline, although it remains to be seen if Ling will pursue the player.
