Gravesend League: Viewpoint clinch title in style

PREMIER Division side Viewpoint retained the championship when they overcame Ace of Clubs at the AEI ground 7-0.

Dominic Hewitt was Ace's tormentor in chief with four goals, aided and abetted by Aaron Brown, Dave Goodwin and Toby Johnson with singles.

Viewpoint have a one point lead over runners-up Lullingstone Castle and also have another fixture to play against Craggs Farm at the AEI ground.

Elsewhere, Guru Nanak Reserves have won Division One with Swan Valley finishing as runners-up.

Heathview United top Division Two having won the title some weeks ago and enjoyed a 5-2 win at home to Meopham in a midweek game.

Lee Collard (2), Dave Collard, Dan Thomas and Richard Nash were all on target for the champions, who finish clear of Waterloo in second.

Meanwhile, Bank Holiday Monday saw the Dampier Palmer Cup final clash take place between Heathview and Earl Grey at the AEI ground.

Earl Grey had the first chance when Nathan Harpum was clear through after three minutes, but he put his shot wide.

Four minutes later, Earl Grey were in front.

A long cross from James Weston on the right was headed back into the Heathview six-yard box and Jack Woollcott placed a free header into an empty net.

Lee Collard almost immediately drew Heathview level with a powerful shot which produced a fine save from Earl Grey keeper Ian Saunders.

Heathview had another chance to go in front when Lee Collard had a free-kick 25 yards out, but he blasted his effort miles high over the bar.

A cracking shot from Woollcott appeared to beat Russell Brooks, the Heathview keeper, but he made a brilliant save diving to his left.

The game was going from end to end with both teams having good chances to score.

In the 36th minute, Heathview got into the Earl Grey area but a defender slid in to bring down Lee Collard.

Referee Lee Culpeck awarded a penalty and Lee Collard stepped to power in the kick and draw his side back on terms.

Heathview took the lead three minutes before half-time after a shot from Dan Jones was deflected into the Earl Grey net.

Lee Collard had two chances go astray in the second period as Heathview upped the tempo, but made amends on the hour by making it 3-1.

Dan Thomas added a fourth from the spot when Mark Tadhunter conceded a penalty, but Earl Grey's player-manager Lewis Spencer nodded his side back in contention on 74 minutes.

However, it was Heathview who had the last say in injury time when Lee Bigg's deflected effort made it 5-2.

League general secretary Derek Carey presented the Dampier Palmer Cup to the Heathview captain Dan Jones afterwards to complete a memorable campaign for his all-conquering side.
