Massive police presence for Millwall match
POLICE will be out in force this afternoon to make sure the Millwall match is safe and trouble free.
Officers from the Met, supported by the British Transport Police, will be at The Den and throughout London to reassure fans and the community.
They will be working to identify and target troublemakers.
The police do not believe any disorder has been planned but are committed to keep the ground in Zampa Road a safe place for all fans.
Anyone without a ticket is advised not to travel to the game because it will not be possible to buy one at the gate.
Superintendent BJ Harrington of Lewisham police said:
"Our overall aim is to facilitate law-abiding fans' travel to and from the
match and create a safe environment for them to enjoy the game itself.
"We've been working closely with Millwall and Leeds football clubs and other agencies involved to make sure this happens.
"We want to send a clear message to fans that we will police match day fairly but firmly to ensure the game passes without incident and allow true football fans to enjoy the day.
"Our message to people planning to attend is simple; if you're coming to enjoy the game safely and legally, we're here to help you do that; if you plan to cause trouble you will find your efforts thwarted."

Looks like the police presence was needed, it has been like living in a war zone in Bermondsey since 2.45 this afternoon. Sirens everywhere and van loads of cops all heading towards The Den whilst helicopters circle overhead.

Didn't see much ag after the game. Well contained by Old Bill unless they simply moved it elsewhere. How many did Leeds bring?

Another sad reminder, how far this country has sunk.Once upon a time a football match,was something to enjoy going to.Certainly not the violent event it has now become.Strange how some become more worried about the outcome of a 'Game', rather than relevant important issues.

it beats me why the police don't just shut the ground down , or make them play to closed gates maybe
that will stop the football tossers or make the team act on these mindless no brainless crowd
if all this trouble happened anywhere else then they would be shut down
for example they regually get 120000 fans , yes fans not thugs at brands hatch for a big bike race ...and you never see any trouble there
