Wanderers kick-off their pre-season schedule tomorrow
WYCOMBE Wanderers return to action tomorrow with their first pre-season friendly of the summer at Blue Square Bet South side Farnborough.
It’s the first of seven warm-up matches for Gary Waddock’s team before they begin their bid to bounce straight back out of League Two at York City on August 18.
They will travel to Rushmoor without four defenders though, with Marvin McCoy, Grant Basey, Danny Foster and Leon Johnson all ruled out because of minor injuries.
But with six new signings arriving in the past week, Waddock is not short of options and will want to give the new faces as much time as possible to gel.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m very happy with the signings. They’ve added to an already good squad.
“They’re doing really well, settled into the group quickly. They’re all good characters and the group have taken to them well.”
New captain Gary Doherty is a familiar face having impressed on loan at Adams Park last season, but Matt Spring, Sam Wood, Richard Logan, Dennis Oli and Lee Angol are all fresh faces.
Speaking of his new captain, Waddock said: “He showed what he can do last season. He’s experienced, knowledgeable and performs to a good standard regularly, which is why I made him captain.”
Meanwhile, fans travelling to the ground have been advised to allow more time because of the Farnborough International Air Show.
