Stanmore and Finchley both beaten in Middlesex County Cricket League Division One

Stanmore’s 55-run defeat to Ealing means they have suffered back-to-back losses in Middlesex County Cricket League Division One.

They were left to rue a disappointing display with the bat as their bowling attack looked to have skittled Ealing for a reachable target.

Micheal Van der Ende was the pick of the bowlers, returning five for 41, while Corey Collymore (three for 50), Pazman Agha (one for 16) and Darshan Milde (one for 17) also chipped in.

Ealing looked to be in trouble at 33 for four but some steady scoring thereafter, including Anand Ashok’s 52, saw them close on 176.

Mark Ramprakash shone in what was a disappointing chase for Stanmore as he posted 56 but received little support elsewhere.

Steve Mehra (14), Collymore (12) and Navin Samarakoon (ten) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as they fell to 121 all out.

Saturday sees Stanmore take on Winchmore Hill who enjoyed a four-wicket home success over Finchley.

The visitors were inserted and posted a fine 211 from their innings, helped in part by Joshua Knappett’s impressive 63.

Steve Selwood scored 22 at the top of the order but there was little to cheer elsewhere as Finchley looked in trouble on 131 for seven.

But Imran Qayyum (49) and Hassan Khan (47) were both desperately unlucky not to score half-centuries as they hauled the score up to a strong target.

The Finchley attack made the best possible start as they set about their task with determination to remove both openers early on.

Khan (four for 65) took the wickets of both Josh Davey (five) and De la Rey Terblanche (two) to leave Hill in danger on seven for two.

However, Luke Stoughton’s huge 88 put the hosts back in contention and after Jim Gatting (22) was removed, David Alleyne’s 77 put them within sight of victory.

Qayyum (two for 35) enjoyed some success in the attack but it was not enough as the home side reached their target for the loss of six wickets.

Finchley, who sit one place above seventh-placed Stanmore in the division, host Hornsey at Arden Field on Saturday.
