Southgate 207
Stanmore 206-8
Middlesex County Premier League
Stanmore relinquished their lead at the top of the table, despite squeezing a winning draw from the very last ball of the match.
Needing eight runs off the final delivery for victory, it was left to Julian Makin to smash a spectacular six to claim the extra three points.
"It was a tremendous six to give us the four points," said Stanmore's John Carter. "We had to get a six to get those extra points, so it was exciting stuff."
Stanmore had put the home side in to bat and Southgate's opening batsmen, Dean (48) and Mahmood (62), laid a sound platform on which to build a solid total. However, Daminda Wijesekera was in irrepressible form with the ball, and his figures of 5-61 dragged the league leaders back into the game.
In reply, Stanmore made hard work of their run chase and their efforts in the field looked to have taken their toll.
Morrison made 35 and Gluka Wijesuriya 54, but with wickets falling cheaply either side of them, it was left to Marc Reingold to steer Stanmore towards the valuable points.
His 71 was backed up by Makin's bold hitting at the end to leave the visitors one point behind new pace-setters Brondesbury.
