'We have to be realistic this season'

WANDERERS fans might have to settle for a season of consolidation after a summer of uncertainty, believes Matt Bloomfield.

Last season the midfielder said he saw no reason why Blues couldn’t challenge for a play-off place in League One, but Wanderers were relegated on the penultimate day of the season.

And this time Bloomfield, who signed a new contract this week, says fans will need to temper hopes of yo-yoing straight back into League One.

Manager Gary Waddock hasn’t been able to bring in any new faces due to a transfer embargo and last week Wanderers closed their Centre of Excellence.

But despite the distractions Bloomfield says the players will be aiming to finish as high up the table as possible.

The 28-year-old said: “We have to be realistic about our aspirations this season. Until the takeover happens I’m not sure what squad we’ll have in place.

“We don’t know what will happen this year but I’m not interested in settling for second best.”
