A former finalist in Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition is hoping it will be a case of second time lucky as he goes in search of a professional deal with Leyton Orient.
Entries are still being received for the competition, and Forest Gate’s Shane Stamp knows what it takes to make an impression.
The 20-year-old entered back in 2010, making it all the way to the final trial match but missed out on a one-year deal with Swindon Town.
Now that Orient have joined the initiative, there are two contracts up for grabs and Stamp is determined to make the most of the chance to win a contract with his local side.
"Getting so far in the first competition and then missing out on the contract with Swindon was really tough to take," he explained.
"I wanted to enter again last year but couldn’t because of family commitments. This year I’m looking to go even further and become a professional footballer.
"I’ve put a lot of work into improving myself as a player and a person over the last two years. If I make it to the first stage of trials then I’ll be doing everything I can to show what I’m capable of.
"I live just down the road from Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium so it would be amazing to have an opportunity to play for my local club."
Stamp currently plays for Ryman Division One North side Ilford and has previously turned out for Tooting & Mitcham United.
Amateur players of all abilities are still being invited to enter the competition with the two winners earning a one-year deal with the League One sides – one at each club.
Entrants will initially be invited to regional trials matches as the journey to a shot in the professional ranks begins.
Chris Smith won the competition last year and signed with Swindon in February before being handed his first-team debut against Bradford City on the final day of the campaign.
