Ks seeking promotion formula

Kingstonian assistant Mark Hams has revealed he and boss Alan Dowson expect to land two new signings this week as they prepare for next season.

Ks finished outside the Ryman League Division One South play-offs this season, after claiming anything less than a top-five spot would be deemed a failure.

And the management team have vowed they will not rest until they have put right the wrongs of last season, starting with bringing in a few fresh faces.

Hams said: "The temptation is to kick back, relax and take it easy for the next few weeks, but I can tell you we started work the minute the final whistle went. It is obvious we need better strikers and defenders, but I think we are interested in taking anyone who is better than we have at the moment.

"I would like to think we will have two new players signed by the end of this week - possibly three.

"That is how seriously we are taking things this summer."

Dowson will be hoping for at least one new central defender to come on board after news emerged that Gavin Cart-wright had left the club by mutual consent.

The former Walton & Hersham centre-back made 37 appearances last season, inwhich Ks finished seventh, but work commitments would have limited his availability in the new campaign.

Dowson said: "He has done a job for us in a couple of positions and is a really nice guy - the sort I would be happy for my daughter to come home with when she's older!"

* Dowson's Kingstonian Soccer School - for ages six to 14 - runs from May 27-30 (10am-3pm daily) at Hinchley Wood Secondary School, Esher.
