Thewell agrees to stay another year with the O's
Alton Thelwell
Alton Thelwell

ORIENT defender Alton Thelwell has agreed to remain at Brisbane Road for a further year.

The 27-year-old former Spurs and Hull defender made 32 appearances last season, despite being plagued by a knee injury for most of the campaign.

But following recent surgery should be fit for the start of next season.

He was one of three players offered a new terms by manager Martin Ling, and became the first to give his decision, with Glenn Morris and Paul Terry yet to give their verdicts.

Reflecting on the news, manager Ling said: "I'm very pleased that Alton has signed his new contract.

"The operation on his knee went well and he should be ready to start of pre-season with the others.

"He has been a big part of our team for the past 18 months, and the fact that he played through the pain barrier for a large part of last season shows the kind of character that he is.

"I'm certainly happy to have him board for another 12 months, and hopefully we will hear back soon from Glenn and Paul."
