Watford set to sign Udinese defender Gabriele Angella according to reports

Watford are close to announcing the signing of Udinese defender Gabriele Angella, it has been reported.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported Udinese have accepted an offer from Watford and that the player has agreed to the move.

It is unclear whether the switch will be a loan deal or a transfer, although the Italian publication says a contract has been agreed.

Angella signed for Udinese from Empoli in 2010 and made a few appearances during his first year but spent last season on loan at Siena and then Reggina.

The 23-year-old, who is reportedly 6ft 3, primarily plays at centre half.

Interesting that it might be a permanent switch rather than a loan.

ps Got my tickets for Barcelona vs Granada on 22/9 ! Just happen to be in the city that weekend and having been in Granada on the night of the first of their 2 promotions 15 months ago, I feel duty bound to go and support our cousins. Might be some of next seasons loans on show?

Do we really need another CD ? We will already have Hall (if ever fit), Bennett and Thompson as cover.

We need some Big Boys if we want to get to the Big League!! Not Gentle Giants either.

With this wonderful scouting network of the pozzo family it is a touch surprising that we only sign ( sorry borrow) players from two clubs. The term worldwide to me indicates something more expansive than one little bit of Italy and an even smaller bit of spain.

If this guy is quick he would be a suitable replacement for AM, possibly even better with the added height! A permanent signing would be good, although perhaps the ideal arrangement would be a loan with a view to transfer to get a better feel to how he would fit in with the squad.

What is the point in scouting the world if we can sign players who are likely to be better than what we already for free. And what's more they'll be more willing to come as they will likely be on the same contract.

Don't sell your self to the fans as the great pozzo family with a worldwide scouting network then..and are they really more willing to come to Watford?
Do you seriously think they have a choice.

This story was first published in la Gazetta back on 24 July 2012. He was understood to be Zolas first signing after taking charge of Watford - but didn't happen at that point. It has taken a long time for him to sign - wonder what the hold up was/is?

Forgot to say - he was pencilled in as the replacement for Mariappa at the time.

Of course each player has a choice, the smart move would be moving to a club where they have more chance to challenge for a starting place in the team. As for a "world class scouting network" you forget that this player has already been snapped up by the network therefore you would assume that he is worthy of being part of it.

I must agree with others that have wondered why we have signed Fitz Hall as he always seems to be injured. Not sure how good he is one fully fit either.

if it is a loan deal then that will be the last one from Udinese , as you can only have 4 from one club.

Using the players from their exisitng clubs is a short term way to bolster the Watford team. We have already seen the impact the payers had on Saturday. Hopefully this will continue.

Also they did use their scouting network to get these players in the first place.

As others have already said, the fact that these players have already been bought is proof of the use of the scouting network. They may only be from two clubs but so far we have signed 2 Czechs, 2 Swiss, 1 Cameroon, 1 Spaniard, 1 Scot and an Englishman, with links to some Italians still to be confirmed. We certainly wouldn't have had such a variety in the past with our old scouting network.

A bit churlish guys! Our recruits from Udinese & Granada have been Swiss, Czech, Italian, Cameroon & a Scots born of Nigerian & Romanian parentage....

A bit churlish mate? Understatement of the year! These guys would have preferred obscurity and administration.
And by the way Mick Moans check out the players the scouting network has yielded Udinese and Grenada, all I can say is, yes please Mr Pozzo

I don't quite understand your post and I believe that you don't understand the Pozzo set-up. They scout for Udinese and then Granada and now Watford benefit from that world-wide scouting network. What's so hard to understand and what's your problem?

Great set up for us.Hardest problem will be to prune back to make room for new players. As for Tommy Smith i dont think he is in the same league as some of the newcomers he is way past his best now.
