Zola's sympathy for Dyche
Gianfranco Zola says he has sympathy for Sean Dyche and believes he will have to win over sections of the Watford faithful following his predecessor’s sacking.
Dyche enjoyed a successful debut season in management after guiding Watford to 11th place in the Championship.
The former centre half had been a player, coach, assistant and manager of the Hornets during the last decade and his sacking surprised many in football.
This is Zola’s second job in management and after being dismissed by West Ham United himself in 2010, the former Italy international says he knows how Dyche feels.
Zola told the Watford Observer: “Of course I have sympathy for him. You never like it when somebody loses their job; I have lost a job and I know how it feels.
“It is a difficult situation and a strange situation because he did a very good job but the new owners have come in and they are trying to put their own people in place.
“I don’t think it was anything to do with Sean and the job he has done, it is just the way it is and it happens everywhere. When people come in they often want their own people.”
Zola has not spoken to Dyche but stated he does have admiration for the man he replaced.
The Chelsea legend was asked whether he believes he needs to win over the supporters, following Dyche’s departure, at Tuesday night’s press conference. He replied: “Yes of course. I know he did very well and to him goes my respect and my admiration.
“He did a very good job so for me the task will be difficult but it has always been like that for me.
“I have had challenges since I started playing football and I was half of the size of the others. They said I wouldn’t stand a chance of becoming a footballer and I took that challenge.
“Now I have another difficult challenge and I told the players, I will give everything I have inside to help them to be maybe a little bit better and we will see how the results go.”
There will be more comments from Zola and chief executive Scott Duxbury uploaded to the website during the course of the week and also in Friday's Watford Observer.

Zola was sacked for failure, Sean perhaps was sacked for not being in the team that brought WFC to the Pozzos despite his success.
I am sure Zola will get our support but failure will be jumped on and equally if the Pozzos are as good as they are cracked up to be, will Duxbury, Zola and Nani survive. the three new boys records to date in football club management has yet to inspire confidence.
As for Zola choosing to make these comments an early bit of PR could be useful in getting fans onside.

SD knows how we all feel about him and that he can move on with his head held high but now, come on Watford fans, it's OUR new era so let's all get behind the new team and move on. COYH's

Agree with Cogg's comments but for Zola to say he knows how Sean feels is utter rubbish.

Duxbury broke some football rules for sure but commited no offence but it is academic, they were already a sinking ship.
And Zola's hands were completely tied and he is totally blameless.

Time to move on from the SD era now and Zola did the right thing to make these comments when he did.

Just as new owners wish to install those they know and feel comfortable with, so too do many managers, who take their coaching staff with them when they move.
So welcome to Watford Gianfranco. Onwards and upwards! COYH!

If I bought a business it has to be run how id want it to be run. And if you have a senior manager in mind to fullfill a certain catergory then you bring them in. You dont take what you are left behind by the previous regime !!

SD just didnt figure in their plan. I hope he has been fairly treated in terms of pay offs, no reason why not and do hope that he gets a chance elsewhere

I'm getting sick of these poor Sean comments and need to get real on this, if SD had been offered more money at a bigger club he'd of done the Frank Brough.
The only people loyal to their clubs are the fans, and it's always been that way.

SD did a much better job than most of us ..including me, expected and I am sure he has all of our gratitude.
I also think for GZ to talk straight and honestly about his predecessor is refreshing, and points to what sort of guy he is.
