Former Watford stars will be at Yellow and Red Lion 'grand reopening'

The Yellow and Red Lion pub will have its "grand opening" on Monday.

The pub reopened on match days on April 6, after closing in 2006, but will now be welcoming punters from 11am to 11pm every day after Monday, when it will open from midday.

Former players Luther Blissett, Nigel Callaghan, Ian Bolton, Steve Terry, Allan Smart and Derek Payne are expected to be among those at the Yellow and Red Lion on Monday, when there will be a hog roast and mini ale festival.

Watford FC decided to have the "grand opening" on Monday in time for England's campaign at the European Championships - their first game is against France at 5pm - and the club will be doing special promotions based on how Roy Hodgson's men perform.

Look forward to seeing how much the pub has changed since the end of the season. Maybe we will now be able to understand where the £500,000 spent on this pub has gone. Or has it GONE?

My understanding from Neil Price was that the figure was nearer £380,000. Even so, now that it is fully open. It shouldn't take that long to recoup the expense and therefore be a welcome addition to the Watford coffers.

Derek Payne, will he be able to see over the bar? Will they need to ask him for proof of age?

Loved him, great little mid fielder. Didnt he sign with another player at the same time from the same club?

Yes, I liked him as well; he also had a nasty streak in his game e.g. denis wise – at least on the pitch.
