Hammers forward skippers Wales to victory

8:38am Sunday 12th October 2008

CRAIG Bellamy captained Wales to a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon.

But the 29-year-old also missed a penalty in the World Cup qualifier.

"It could have been more convincing, I missed the penalty, but at the end of the day it's a win," said Bellamy after his first start for nearly a year.

"I needed my 80 minutes, it felt like my first start for nearly a year, I hope to get a good run in now.

"If I hadn't got that under my belt it would have been difficult for me to start against Germany on Wednesday."

Bellamy was replaced nine minutes from time by team mate James Collins.

Another Hammers defender, Valon Behrami, was smiling too as he played the full game as Switzerland beat Latvia 2-1.

But it was not such an enjoyable weekend for left back Herita Ilunga.

His Congo DR side lost 2-1 in Malawi and the defeat has ended their hopes of reaching the World Cup.
